- Abstract
NOTE Social Welfare Corporation promotes a wide range of medical and welfare services for the elderly. Snoezelen, a controlled multisensory environment, has been implemented as a type of dementia care in a special nursing home run by NOTE Social Welfare Corporation. A Snoezelen informal study group was organized in October 2018. A Snoezelen development and promotion office was subsequently established in January 2019 in the special nursing home Furusato. From May 2019 to September 2020, an occupational therapist implemented Snoezelen for 42 residents with dementia (mean age 士 standard deviation: 86.2 士 7.9 years) as a part of individual functional training services. While in the Snoezelen room, residents are able to concentrate and engage in meaningful activities, such as video viewing and singing. Moreover, positive changes in residents' behavior are observed in the daily care settings after spending time in the Snoezelen room. The occupational therapist follows the triadic interaction principle, a fundamental aspect of Snoezelen, and assists residents to recollect fun and good things about the past and to think positively about their life.
