The article offers information on the history, development, and significance of the proprietary education institutions in the U.S. It discusses the role of the academic abstention doctrine in treatment of the proprietary schools as the corporations. It also informs that measures to regulate proprietary education institutions by the U.S. Department of Education were insufficient.
