- Abstract
On the basis of monographs of Polish associations, interviews realized with descendants of Polish migrants and documents from regional archives of Nord-Pas-de-Calais, this article deals with the link between the space and the promotion of the Polish immigration's memory. Since 1990s, in the mining areas of Saône-et-Loire and Nord-Pas-de-Calais, a mutual influence is exerted between the territory and "Polishness", this one being defined as the affection of the Polish migrants and their descendants to Poland and its culture. The territory leads a part of the actions of this population and at the same time, this latter use it to keep Polish immigration's memory. The organization of the space, driven by the mining companies, influences sustainably the activities of the descendants of migrants who organize various celebrations in favour of the memory of this immigration. In parallel with these events, the history of mining industry, having employed thousands of Poles, is valued and becomes a real heritage. The territory is thus built as a place of memory, while remaining a vector of "Polishness".
