A reprint of the article "Suburban Housing Inspectors Crack Down on Latinos," that was published in the September 1995 issue of "The Chicago Reporter" is presented. It reports on the building code violations committed by the Latino population that doubled in the 1980s in Elgin, Illinois. Topics covered include the housing citation issued by city officials in majority Latino neighborhoods, complaints of racism in code enforcement, and Latinos being hit the hardest by occupancy infractions.
