- Title
DO MUSLIMS VOTE ISLAMIC?
- Authors
Kurzman, Charles; Naqvi, Ijlal
- Abstract
In this article the author discusses statistics about the voting records of Islamics in free and fair elections. Authoritarian regimes that control many of the Islamic societies use the threat of overwhelming victories in elections as justification of repression and many of their allies in the United States and Europe have accepted this premise. The author examines all elections in which Islamic parties have participated, not just the few successful ones, to ascertain the effect of the Islamic vote. Over the course of more than 160 elections, Islamics have drawn only 8 percent of the vote. The article discusses conclusions that can be drawn from these statistics.
