- Abstract
The quantification of reference evapotranspiration is of fundamental importance for irrigated agriculture. This phenomenon depends simultaneously on several factors, including the relative humidity of the air, data this, which is often not available in weather stations. Thus, the objective of this study was to compare methodologies for estimating the relative humidity of the air for the Brazilian semiarid (based on the Tetens equation). The evaluation revealed that the methodology that uses the altered minimum air temperature, instead of the dew point temperature, should be used with caution. Even with improvements in the relative humidity estimates, in some places satisfactory results were not observed. When using a minimum temperature of -1 ° C, the mean values of the agreement index and square root of the mean error were 0.627 and 10%, respectively. When -2 ° C, the values for the same indices were 0.571 and 12%, respectively. When the minimum air temperature was used subtracted from a locally adjusted value, values of 0.676 were obtained for the concordance index and 8.19% for the square root of the average error. After adjusting the value of R2, correlating estimated and measured relative humidity, it rose from 0.36 to 0.89.
