- Abstract
The article informs that tobacco use has reached epidemic global proportions. It is the greatest single cause of preventable disease and premature death in the United States today (American Cancer Society, 2003) and is the second most common cause of death in the world, killing almost five million people every year. With more than one out of three cancer deaths related to tobacco, ONS has a longstanding position supporting myriad initiatives, policies, and other efforts to prevent tobacco use and assist those currently using tobacco to quit.
