- Abstract
The use of the computer has been steadily increasing. Approximately 50% of all homes have at least one computer. A great number of the people that use this technology on a daily basis show visual symptoms such as ocular irritation, itchiness, blurred vision, tearing and red eye. Those symptoms in conjunction with other less frequent ones bring about The Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). These symptoms are caused by many factors. They have been related to alterations in the eye itself (changes in the ocular surface and in the accommodation) and environmental factors (illumination, the quality of the image, and the visual angle). In this syndrome there are both ocular and extra ocular symptoms. CVS has multidirectional treatments that range from symptom management, the implementation of adequate environmental measures in the workplace, and changes in computer using habits. These last two, being absolutely indispensable in the prevention of the symptoms. This article will systematically elaborate on this matter.
