- Abstract
Objectives: characterization of the areas of practice and preference as well as measuring the professional identity of production engineering. The descriptive, qualitative and quantitative field research allowed the use of semi-structured interviews and standardized instruments. The probabilistic sample (85 engineers) and five for qualitative analysis (criteria: accessibility and typicality) were selected from the pool of 291 engineers who graduated between 2010 and 2016. The qualitative data was determined by the content analysis technique and processing quantitative data was made by the software SPSS version 23® and Microsoft Excel®. The results indicate that such a professional has an upward career in all cases, only one does not work in the area covered by PE, and one respondent does not work in his or her favorite area. In regard to professional identity, there was a very favorable self-awareness and the awareness of others with special emphasis on the qualitative ethics, multidisciplinary and management skills. Under the scope of the areas of expertise, professionals who work in the areas covered by PE identify themselves qualitatively in a different way from those who do not work in these areas. The professional identity was largely described in a favorable way.
