- Abstract
Thermography is a non-invasive method that reflects changes in human body temperature and may help in the understanding of thermoregulatory adjustments in exercise. Thus, the objective of the present study was to draw the thermographic profile of young handball athletes after an official game. Participated 11 players belonging to a school team in the city of Boa Vista - RR. Sixteen thermograms were collected on the right and left sides of each athlete, in the anterior deltoid, triceps, quadriceps and hamstrings muscles before and after an official match. A Flir® Systems model TG-165, with Lepton® detector and 1.5% accuracy, ≤0.01°C sensitivity, was used to collect the thermographic images. Thermograms results in upper limb muscles showed significant changes for the triceps of 1.7°C and 1.6°C on the right / left sides, and slight changes of 0.3°C and 0.2°C for the right / left anterior deltoid respectively. In the lower musculature, thermographic analysis showed variations for the quadriceps muscles (0.2°C right and 0.1°C left) and hamstrings (0.4°C right and 0.2°C left) after the game, but without statistical difference. Thus, we can conclude that the handball match caused thermal changes in the muscles, with a higher concentration in the triceps. We also consider that thermography is a method that plays an important role in the evaluation and control of athletes' physical exhaustion after handball matches.
