- Abstract
In this paper, a new pounding model is presented, which allows for the modification of the pounding condition during the excitation time period. The formulation consists of a Hertz spring, a nonlinear damping, and a dry friction element. In this respect, the gap function, i.e., the condition for penetration, is extended. This allows for an efficient pounding description, including possible damage and material dissipation to be described within the potential collision regions of the structures. Numerical results on a simple example are presented and discussed. It is shown that the new pounding model is indeed able to efficiently describe possible surface damage effects, in particular, if multiple collisions are observed during the excitation time period.
