The article discusses the effect of the Roslyn School District financial scandal in 2005 on the accounting profession. A brief account of the scandal is given. In New York, statewide audits of school districts by the Office of the State Comptroller (OSC) resulted. The author states that certified public accountants (CPAs) have a responsibility to ensure professional care in auditing nonprofit organizations but organizations should also be informed consumers.
