- Abstract
The article presents an examination into the literary-theatrical history of Spanish drama of the late-18th and early-19th centuries, discussing their depiction of fatherhood and patriarchy in the Atlantic colonial dominions. Particular attention is given to the manifestation of the socio-political conflict of Spanish imperialism regarding power seen in the subtext of the works. Additional subjects discussed include the legal aspects of the dramas, cross-cultural comparisons to other forms of drama at the time, and contrasts between their reception in Europe and the Americas.
