- Abstract
To evaluate the structure, development and functionality of families of adolescents with sickle cell disease and to implement identified nursing interventions. Qualitative study with theoretical basis in the structural, developmental and functional categories, in addition to interventions proposed by the Calgary Model; methodological strategy: case study. Data were collected through home visits with four families of five adolescents with sickle cell disease, from May to November 2019. It was highlighted in the assessment that families carry the fear of ethnic discrimination, as well as prejudice that the disease, being chronic, makes those affected by it limiting. All of them had elements in their support network from other systems, other than the family system, such as neighbors and health institutions. The Calgary Model allowed an expanded view of the family and the interventions implemented were important for the balance between weaknesses and strengths.
