- Abstract
This article discusses Wilhelm Bode's significant role in the European art market during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. It highlights the availability of archival sources that have led to numerous studies on Bode's relationship with collecting and the art market. The article introduces an anthology that explores Bode's lesser-known activities in scholarship, connoisseurship, and the art market, focusing on his influence and position within the art market. The anthology is divided into four parts, each examining different aspects of Bode's work. While the essays in the anthology vary in style and approach, they provide valuable insights into Bode's life and work.
