- Abstract
The article describes the volume "The Archivist as Chronicler. Eduard Schulte and the Revolution 1918/19 in Münster" edited by Lena Krull, which deals with the long-time Münster city archivist Eduard Schulte and his three-volume chronicle of the city of Münster during World War I and the revolution of 1918/19. Schulte was the head of the city archive from 1913 to 1945 and the managing director of the Historical Commission of Westphalia from 1929 to 1933. After joining the NSDAP, he took on various tasks in the field of archival work and was dismissed and interned after the war. Schulte's chronicle served to defame the workers' movement, the workers' and soldiers' councils, and to denigrate the Catholic Center Party. The volume also sheds light on the role of the Historical Commission, Schulte's anti-Semitic attitude, and his relationship with Carl Severing. It also points out the instrumentalization and misuse of sources for propagandistic purposes.
