- Abstract
An unprecedented situation such as the COVID-19 pandemic has placed countries worldwide against a medical crisis with tremendous implications in all economic, social fields. Faced with this dramatic shift in perspective, countries had to implement sanitary measures in order to limit the spread and negative effects of COVID-19. The global economy has faced and will continue to face significant problems related to the reduction, interruption and cessation of activities, declining consumption and investment, loss of jobs for a significant part of the population, decrease in purchasing power, etc. General lockdowns have drastically reduced the disease's rate of transmission, saving numerous lives, thus being "the golden standard" from a medical standpoint. However, from a psychosocial, cultural, and especially economic perspective, going once again in total lockdown could prove to be disastrous, further deepening the already existing financial and social disparities between people and compromising national economies. This paper analyzes in a multi and transdisciplinary approach the current medical context and the economic and social implications at global, European and national level of COVID-19 pandemic. At the same time, the paper reviews the current state of research conducted worldwide for the development of vaccines against SARS CoV-2 and the impact of vaccination on economic recovery.
