- Title
Words and music, land and sea: On writing a first libretto.
- Authors
Kratz, Martin
- Abstract
The article offers the author's insight on the music, place and words used in the story "The Mermaid of Zennor," with particular consideration on the writings of author and novelist D. H. Lawrence. He discusses his research of the libretto for a chamber opera that is based on the legend, focusing on the evening hymn first heard by Morveren while resting on the Pendour Cove. He explores the tension between land and sea that is similar to the tension between words and music to the libretto.
