- Abstract
Introduction: Crowns usually have a greater lifespan, but still they fail for a number of reasons. Many methods and devices have been invented to remove crowns from abutment teeth. Usually, crown removal is done when there is a fracture or breakage, trauma to the tooth, failure of conventional methods in removing crowns, and so. There are different methods for crown removal depending on the injury. Materials and Methods: A pre-tested questionnaire was prepared with ten questions about various crown removal methods. The questionnaire was distributed to 100 dental students and the responses were elicited. The data were extracted, tabulated, and analyzed using statistical software. Results: About 63.3% of them have preferred pneumatic crown remover. About 17.9% of them have chosen CORONAflex as the air driven crown removal method. About 10.5% of them have chosen crown tractors as the effective system for removing professional crowns. About 7.2% of them have opted matrix bands as the restorative procedure. About 1.1% of them have chosen buccolingual dimple technique, where dimples are created. Conclusion: The awareness of various crown removal methods among dental students was adequate. Pneumatic crown removers are the most preferred method of crown removal. However, more awareness can be created by organizing more dental education programs.
