"Trans Lies Elsewhere": Trans of Color Lives, Critiques, and Futures.
- Authors
Upadhyay, Nishant
- Abstract
At times, the book can be challenging to navigate, because of the multiple contexts and theoretical explorations, yet it illuminates powerful examples of how trans of color art and activism strategically uses digital technologies to unsettle racial-gender-binaries, to transform their varying relations of power and imagine gender otherwise. In the coda, Galarte concludes by disrupting the gender binary and offering a meditation on the "x" (as the "x" in Chicanx/Latinx) and offers potentialities of "x" to "confront the potential violence in the sex-gender-sexuality paradigms" (138). While mapping these histories, Chen also pays close attention to how these artists rupture the logics of racial-gender-binaries to imagine, perform, and live gender in surplus, gender as otherwise, trans as elsewhere.
