- Title
Idealization in Economics: A Structuralist View1.
- Authors
de la Sienra, Adolfo García
- Abstract
The aim of the present paper is to deal, within a structuralist perspective, with the problem of the nature and types of idealization in positive economics. Even though the topic of idealization in normative economics is very important, and some results presented here might become also useful in dealing with such topic, a proper treatment of the same would require more space than provided here. The most complete discussion of idealization from a structuralist perspective is due to De Donato (2011), but this work is concerned mainly with idealization in physics. Are the claims made about idealization in physics valid mutatis mutandis in economics? This is one of the leading questions of the paper.
