- Authors
ERLICH, DEBORAH R.; SLAWSON, DAVID C.; SHAUGHNESSY, ALLEN F.
- Abstract
The authors discuss the so-called Lending a Hand approach that family physicians may consider when dealing with patients with type 2 diabetes. The approach emphasizes proven interventions that improve duration and quality of life. From thumb to little finger, each digit on an open hand portrays one intervention in decreasing order of benefit. These interventions include smoking cessation, blood pressure control, metformin therapy, lipid reduction and glycemic control.
