The article presents the review of the contributions of the Guinea Worm Disease (GWD) Eradication Campaign toward achievement of the millennium development goals. It states the impact of infectious diseases on the biological, historical and political development of the human species. It mentions that GWD is a disease of the poor and found many in the most remote and disadvantaged communities in parts of sub-Saharan Africa. It further discusses that GWD is categorized as a neglected tropical disease (NTD)
