Since time immemorial, health have been a core concern for the wellbeing of people and therefore all human societies have developed peculiar knowledge of healing. A large proportion of worlds' population still relies on traditional practitioners, including traditional birth attendants, herbalists, and bone-setters and on local medical plants to satisfy their primary health care needs. The present study explored the socio-economic profile of the respondents and its relationship with choosing a particular mode of healing in general and herbalism in particular. For this purpose, field work was conducted from June 2014 till May 2015 in Bhara Kahu town, Islamabad, through a natural experimental research design. Only those 238 respondents, selected through purposive sampling, were interviewed through Interview Schedule, who had sought ethno medicine, particularly herbalism. Moreover, 13 key informants who were basically herbalists helped establish a good rapport in the field. Data was first coded and then analyzed through Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), to obtain frequencies as well as to cross-tabulate the variables. The findings revealed that major determinants of opting herbalism were its cheap prices, easy availability and efficiency of herbs, belief system of the users and availability of herbal drugs. The hypothesis signified a positive association between the efficiency of herbs and usage of herbalist treatment.
