The article examines the history of West Wichita or Delano in Kansas in the 1870s, particularly its image and identity of violence, gambling, and other vices. Topics discussed include the 1968 book "The Cattle Towns" by historian Robert Dykstra and the 1991 book "Victorian West" by C. Robert Haywood on the history of cattle trade and violence and the association of western saloons with violence and vice due to their depiction in movies.
