- Abstract
The article presents an account by Frank Fetter on the economists' opposition to the Hawley-Smoot tariff bill published in the June 1942 issue of the "American Economic Review," including the statement signed by 1,028 economists and signatories recorded in the U.S. Congressional Record-Senate of May 5, 1930. A copy of the statement was given to the press in Washington for publication on May 3, 1930. Signatories included economic professors Paul H. Douglas, University of Chicago, Irving Fisher, Yale University and Frank D. Graham, Princeton University.
