The author discusses sexually suggestive graffiti in ancient Pompeii in terms of women's literacy and sexual agency. The social conditions of Roman women, women as writers and oral readers of graffiti, and the marginalization of women are discussed, as well as the education of women, class divisions in Roman society, and gender relations in Pompeii.
