- Abstract
The article presents a study on the prevalence and pathogenesis of focal mesangiopathic glomerulonephritis. It is characterized by the primary deposition of immune complexes in the mesangium, provoking a proliferation of mesangial cells and matrix. The primary determinant of the site of immune complex deposition, and therefore of the pattern of tissue response, is the size of the immune complex. Researchers concluded that based on clinicopathological correlations, the various stages of mesangiopathic lesions, in cases of systemic lupus are probably due to variation in the rates of delivery of intermediate-size immune complexes to the glomeruli.
