- Abstract
In this paper our aim is to present the role of the Austro-Hungarian Bank (AHB) in switching from the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy's old-fashioned silver coins to gold. The preparations of the currency reform began in February 1889 on Austrian initiative. At the same time an important question emerged regarding the disposal of the silver stock of the AHB, nevertheless the employees of the bank of issue were only involved in the coordination meetings in September 1890. The person of the Governor of the bank of issue had great importance, as the previous Governor did not support the gold currency. Following his replacement Gyula Kautz took the position in 1892, who was a firm supporter of the gold currency.
