- Abstract
The article discusses a variety of topics, including the history of diplomatics in Austria from the late 19th to the early 21st century in the context of archival studies programs, the constitutional and administrative structure of Austria in the 16th and early 17th centuries and the use of government documents from this period to study the history of the House of Habsburg, and particularly the doodles left by Austrian emperor Joseph I on such documents during official meetings of his privy council. On the first theme, the author highlights the contribution to research and teaching in the fields of Austrian archivists Lothar Groß, Walter Goldinger, and Lorenz Mikoletzky. On the question of doodles, the author details provenance research and archival appraisal and presents samples.
