- Abstract
Brief Background: Tobacco is the single largest cause of non-communicable disease. No Studies have been carried out in India, which identify the dentists' role in tobacco education/cessation. Materials and Methods: The study sample was a clinical series of 200 male smokers and 200 male non-smokers out of 600 screened. Discussions: The study results could not be compared with other Indian studies as no study has been carried out in India concerning the patients' attitude towards the role of dentist in providing tobacco education/cessation. Summary and Conclusions: The present study showed that more than 90% of the patients were in favour of the dentist providing tobacco education/cessation and more than 90% of the patients also believed that advice from a dentist will help people give up tobacco use.
