- Abstract
The concept of life goals was introduced in the 1970's as a desired dimension of motivation. Life goals are the desired states that people seek to obtain, maintain or avoid. Individuals try to achieve these goals using cognitive and behavioural strategies. Life goals orient an individual's life course and are determined by individual and contextual factors. Life goals are accessible to awareness and can be measured. Pursuit of life goals may be interrupted by neurological diseases and consequent disabilities. The motivation of a person to participate in the rehabilitation process depends on concurrence between the goals. Hence identification of life goals of each individual patient is important for the success of the rehabilitation of the programme. Life goals are influenced by age, gender, affect and social status. There are no studies on their relation with disability. The objectives of the current study were to identify life goals of people with disabilities due to disorders of nervous system and to measure the relationship between life goals and disabilities.
