- Abstract
The article discusses the role that the U.S. Army Air Force unit known as the Bamboo Fleet played in providing support to the U.S. forces besieged in Bataan, Philippines and Corregidor, Philippines during World War II. An overview of the U.S. Army Air Force's use of fighter planes to transport supplies and military personnel passengers, which was due to the lack of availability of conventional airlift aircraft, is provided. An overview of the pilots of the Bamboo Fleet, including Captain William "Jitter Bill" R. Bradford, is also provided.
