- Title
Practice Notes: Strategies in Health Education.
- Abstract
The article discusses a study of environmental factors affecting walking to school among elementary school children using handheld palm computers in Missouri. The objective of the study was to assess walkability in the neighborhoods around elementary schools and identify traffic patterns and environmental conditions that pose as deterrents to children. Forty-five environmental features around elementary schools were examined including sidewalks, street crossings, and safety using Filemaker Pro Mobile palm computers to gather information. The use of the Palm device is evaluated and its implications for health practitioners are explored.
