Network models and financial stability.
Abstract
The article presents an overview of a study on the determinants of systemic failure and the structure of a banking system. The study suggests that increasing the size of interbank liabilities tends to increase the risk of knock-on default sharply once the size of liabilities moves beyond a certain threshold. The results indicate that more concentrated banking systems are prone to larger systemic risk.
