The article focuses on the African cities as they are battling political, social and economic problems amidst rising security concerns. The privatization of civic services, growing violence and migration have tightened the security policies. The article details the role of social scientists in developing the privatization of security, community policing and urban citizenship. The article also discusses the conflicts involved in the security measures.
