- Abstract
A number of the estimated 60 species in Aulonemia have pectinately-fimbriate overlapping sheath margins on both culm and foliage leaves. A new species in this group, Aulonemia ximenae, from the Andes of Colombia and western Venezuela, is described and illustrated and its distribution is mapped. It is distinguished by the presence of pectinate fimbriae along the full length of the overlapping sheath margins. Aulonemia ximenae is compared with A. subpectinata and A. trianae, the two most similar species in the same region. A key to the species of Aulonemia with fimbriate sheath margins is also included.
