- Title
THE CRITICAL SHORTAGE OF SCIENCE TEACHERS.
- Authors
Weaver, Edward K.
- Abstract
The article discusses the results of the study on the status of science teachers in the U.S. colleges. One hundred forty-four of individuals qualified to teach were either minoring in science or majoring in Natural Science or in a related field. One individual takes up a major in Science Education. There is a consistent decline of individuals to teach on the basis of a major. College and university personnel tend to direct promising students from the teaching profession for other jobs which offer higher remuneration. Teacher training recruitment is unattractive to prospective science teachers.
