The article offers information on the contributions and achievements of David Phillipson, an Africanist archaeologists. Topics include information on his vast experience in fieldwork and travel throughout Africa, from Zambia in the 1960s and 1970s to Ethiopia in the 1990s and 2000s. Among his notable contributions are works of synthesis, a book on the later prehistory of eastern and southern Africa, and the first comprehensive modern synthesis of the field of African Archaeology.
