- Abstract
This research aims to carry out a study of the current edition of nonfiction books for children in Spain and Portugal. For this purpose, six independent publishing projects of recognized quality in children's and young adult literature have been selected. These ones have recently incorporated the publication of non-fiction titles into their catalogs. The selected publishers are A Buen Paso, Takatuka and Akiara Books in Spain, and Planeta Tangerina, Orfeu Negro and Pato Lógico in Portugal. In addition to the brief presentation of the publishers and their proposals for non-fiction, it is included an exploratory and qualitative study of the visual and artistic elements -paying special attention to the graphic components and the materiality of the book as an object-, as well as the themes and typologies dominant in the editorial projects of each country. The results suggest that despite the particularities of each geographic context, this research identifies a set of elements common to the countries, in the current publication of the books of nonfiction, capable of defining some global editorial trends in this scope of publication.
