- Abstract
The research aims to identify the positive and negative effects of social networking on rural youth in Ismailia and Port Said governorates. The study was conducted on a sample of 450 individuals using the stratified random sampling method in 2021. The study used the appropriate statistical methods to analyze the data. The most important results showed that about 59.1% of the respondents emphasized the usefulness of social media, especially in forming new friendships, followed by family rapprochement by 52%, and knowledge of agricultural developments by 49.6%. Approximately 74.5% of the respondents agreed that the negative aspects of social networks are that they are a means of family disintegration, and that they help destroy values and principles, followed by that they are a waste of time and lead to the spread of violent crimes and spread laziness, isolation and escape from reality. It was also found that the topics most followed by respondents were news topics with a percentage of 73.6%, followed by entertainment topics with a percentage of 69.3%, then religious topics with 68.7, then sports 65.3%, and then agricultural topics with 61.6%. It was also found that about 87.8% of the respondents use social networks on a daily basis. The degree of respondents' satisfaction with the use of social networks is average at 35.8%, and complete satisfaction at 30.7%.
