- Abstract
The article presents an observation on the lichen ecology of Dorset, England's South Haven Peninsula where a system of sand dunes lives. According to the study conducted by Good, the general succession on the dunes is from dune-grass dominated by Ammophila arenaria to dry Calluna-heath in which the succession comes along with increases in acidity and organic content of the soil. It relates that lichen vegetation of the dunes has one of the most striking features which is the complete transition occurs in the replacement of Ammophila by Calluna. It also provides a comparison with the lichen vegetation of adjacent heaths on Bagshot gravel, and with other dune systems in the country.
