- Title
Retention of amalgam restorations: undercuts versus bonding.
- Authors

- Abstract
The article offers information about a study conducted to evaluate the effectivity of amalgam bonding technique and cavity preparation, as used in dentistry. The technique involves bonding amalgam to tooth, resulting in an adhesive strength similar to composite resins, by using a resin liner to bond the metal to tooth structure. To test the retention of the restorations, the restored teeth were mounted in individual acrylic blocks, placed in an Instron testing machine, and then were loaded with a stimulated occlusal force against the marginal ridge. It was found that the technique, using an adhesive resin liner in box form preparations, was effective in providing displacement under simulated occlusal loads.
