- Abstract
The article discusses the state of Baptist theological education as of 2009. After briefly addressing the general history of Baptist theological education in the U.S., the author examines the development of Baptist graduate educational programs in the Southern U.S. Focus is given to Master of Divinity Programs at such Baptist institutions as the Candler School of Theology of Emory University and Duke University Divinity. The author explains increased Baptist student enrollment in Master of Divinity programs and notes its impact on Association of Theological Schools (ATS) accredited seminaries. Trends discussed include an increase in the cost of such education and a decrease in Baptist church membership.
