- Abstract
We investigate whether an insurer's performance during the 1980s crisis helps predict its performance during the recent liability crisis. We test two hypotheses, the learning process and the persistent model process. We find that the insurer's performance in the 1980s liability crisis has strong predictive power for its performance in the current crisis. We also show that the exhibiting persistence of crisis exposure and award appear to be largely concentrated among insurers with loss ratio at the upper level.
