Victorious Service in Lady Mary Wroth's Love's Victory.
- Authors
DAWKINS, CLAIRE
- Abstract
The article discusses the concept of service as it is developed in poet Lady Mary Wroth's 17th-century play "Love's Victory." Particular focus is given to Wroth's use of the words "servant" and "slave" in the work, along with the different ways the play's male and female shepherd characters view their subjugation to love. It is argued that Wroth utilizes the metaphor of domestic service as a means to comment on love relationships between men and women.
