- Abstract
The article presents the six national special study institutes focusing on doctoral level education programs supported by the Mental Retardation Branch, Division of Training Programs and Bureau of Education for the Handicapped of the U.S. Office of Education. The program institutes were conducted regionally to enable all 50 states and Puerto Rico to send delegates. Among the specific objectives of the institute were to examine the present status of doctoral programs in mental retardation, explore the types of personnel demanded in the field, develop standards for assessment of the effectiveness of those programs and give feedback to the U.S. Office of Education concerning future doctoral preparation patterns.
