- Abstract
This article discusses the detection of Isariopsis griseola on French beans in Ireland. In September 1964, a small area of French beans severely affected by a leaf spot was found in a crop in County Dublin. Angular necrotic lesions, delimited by veins, were numerous on all leaves of the affected plants. Sheaf-like groups of hyphae, bearing conidia at their tips, were abundant on the underside of the spots. The organism was isolated, and identified as Isariopsis griseola. The causal organism was probably introduced into Ireland with seed and, while only a small area in one crop was affected, symptoms on infected plants were severe. Therefore, disease must be considered of potential importance under Irish climatic conditions.
