- Title
Stress, Redeployed.
- Authors
Carlsten, Chris; Hunt, Stephen
- Abstract
The article presents the authors' experience of seeing an Iraq veteran with symptoms of post-traumatic stress who is having family problems but who wants to redeploy with his unit. They draw analogies between the reactions to traumatic stress and allergic reactions, identifying war and the combat experience as the "allergen." They know that if the soldier redeploys, it could lead to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and even worse family problems. However, they empathize with the soldier's loyalty to his unit. They discuss the doctor's dilemma of having a duty to give advice and yet not get too involved.
