- Abstract
Training simulators are generally designed specifically for the proposed vehicle modeling under the regulations and corresponding certification of national and international authorities, whereas research simulators widely aim to provide the base platform for scientific research interests of various disciplines. Regarding the cost of high technological components and whole system built-up perspective of simulators, most of the existing simulators are products of one type or class of vehicle oriented design and development process. Therefore, especially for the research simulator area of interest, METU-TAF MODSIMMER has initiated a project to develop "General Purpose Research Simulator" for air, ground and sea vehicles with different dynamics which will be enhanced by mathematical model support, motion based platform, ergonomic user environment and visual simulation. Modular and dynamical hardware and software system of the simulator will provide its application in different educational and research fields through its design as a unique cabin where the simulations could be easily and effectively performed. During hardware design, user-oriented analysis was performed and scenarios of different users, physical ergonomy issues are integrated. As being an important component of the whole software and hardware system, the motion platform is controlled through developed generic software architecture. As a result, the integration of different simulations will be performed with a general method. In this study, the critical processes of the system design up to moment will be examined and further processes will be mentioned.
